Although concrete is a strong material for construction, it is not resistant to breakage, especially when longer concrete slabs are required, such as in a bridge or beam. For this, the concrete slab is stressed with a process called prestressing and the concrete slab that comes out after this process is known as post-tensioning slab.

 This slab is much stronger and more durable than normal concrete slabs. In today's world, where modern engineering is finding new ways to build longer, more efficient and stronger structures, the post-tensioning slab becomes one of its main requirements. There are many advantages and disadvantages of post-tensioned slabs that we will discuss in this post.

Post tension slab advantages

 1. Reduced Cost - In this slabs are great ways to build stronger structures at an affordable price. There are many structures like parking lots and stadiums, as they are required to support much more weight than average buildings, this slab becomes a viable option. 

 2. Design flexibility: Designs made with this slab are elegant, require less space and give way to dynamic contours. All of this makes them ideal for the expression of creativity in building design. 

 3. Less use of materials: Since the post-tensioning slab is thin, the materials used with it are also less. Be it thin beams, walls or building support pillars, this compact concrete slab does not need bulky materials. 

 4. Durability: Being a very strong substitute for normal concrete, it lasts longer. 

Post Tension Slabs Disadvantages 

 1. Since there are multiple tendons and wires scattered within the post-tensioning slab, it can result in corrosion. But to a large extent, this tendency to corrosion depends on the quality of the material used.  

2. Complexity of the work: In this slab can only be done by skilled professionals. Local workers may not have the skills to prepare this complex slab. 

 3. Poor workmanship can lead to accidents: The main problem with using post-tensioning slabs is that if care is not taken during fabrication, future mishaps can occur. Ignorant workers often don't fill in the gaps in tendons and wiring completely. These gaps lead to corrosion of the cables that can break prematurely, leading to some adverse events. Post-tensioning slab is one of the mainstays of modern architecture and builders cannot think of making skyscrapers, longer bridges, and wonderful structures without using it. A skilled and experienced job is one of the key requirements when making these slabs, on the other hand, carelessness in the manufacturing process can lead to disastrous results.
